When it comes to my classroom, I want to make sure my students have the proper amount of technology at their fingertips. Since society is changing quickly and students must learn the same amount of information as previous generations, it can become challenging when deciding how to include tech within the classroom. Furthermore, most teachers believe technology must stay outside and teachers should be able to kick students out if phones are ever seen or heard. This should not be the case, however, and technology should be a main factor with how students learn. Not only that, but it should also be a factor with how teachers perform their jobs. There are many examples of tech that we could cover, but I am only going to cover those that mean the most to me.
For starters, when it comes to grading my students, I plan on using Google Sheets. Not only is this program useful for plugging in numbers, but I can also calculate how many more points a student needs to pass or fail a class. In addition to that, if I ever make a mistake I can quickly fix it. Therefore, I have the ability to constantly make sure my student’s grades are correct. Another reason I believe Google Sheets will help me with my job comes from the fact that manipulating it is super easy. Let’s say that I miss entering in a certain assignment that the students did a few weeks ago. All I have to do to fix it is to enter in a brand new column and it will be like I never missed entering in the grade. Furthermore, this will keep all the grades in order with the dates they were given. That way, when a student or supervisor asks what my class did on a particular day, I can access my sheet and tell them within seconds. All in all, having a program like Google sheets should be considered by all teachers, as grading the students and staying up to date with assignments can be quite the hassle at times.
Another way I plan to incorporate technology into my class, is by giving assessments through the website Quizizz. After reviewing this website and evaluating its purposes, I have grown to love it. Everything about this website is superior to Kahoot, which many classroom currently use. First off, teachers are able to create their own quizzes and there is no limit on how many they can make. Whatever subject someone is teaching, they can make up their own questions and decide if it should be multiple choice or short answer. It is a perfect way to evaluate how much your students have comprehended. Not only that, but you can create folders for certain classes you are teaching, which I plan on doing because I want to use this website as much as possible. In addition to that, if I ever feel like I don’t know what to put on a quiz or exit slip I can browse through the thousands of quizzes already on the website that have been made by other people.
The last piece of technology that I plan on using is Geogebra. There are multiple reasons for this one, and it is perhaps the most important. To begin, I can use this website to create graphs and shapes through the online program. Once this is done, these can be placed on homework packets, quizzes or even tests. That way, whenever I ask my students a question, they can have the matching visual. This will hopefully help their understanding of any questions I ask where they have to think about how something looks or is shaped. Finally, I want to teach my lessons in a way that students can see change happen right before their eyes. By using Geogebra, I can project the graphs on the board and have my students help me manipulate them into wanted results. With all this in mind, I plan on making my classroom one of the most technologically advanced classes within my entire school.
